Poco Lee UK case draws support from friends as the Nigerian dancer remains on remand ahead of a September 15 London court hearing

Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, remains on remand in the United Kingdom as friends and colleagues rally behind him ahead of his scheduled court appearance over an alleged assault offence.

The development, confirmed on Monday, August 24, 2026, by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of a Nigerian community in the UK, has triggered a wave of support from figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Kuti said Poco Lee is expected to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court in London at 10am on September 15 for a plea hearing.

He said he planned to attend the proceedings to support the dancer and urged the public to allow the legal process to run its course.

“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison,” Kuti said.

“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

The confirmation follows reports that began circulating online on August 19 concerning Poco Lee’s alleged detention in Britain. Early reports provided limited information about the circumstances of the allegation and did not initially identify the complainant.

The reported case has since attracted renewed attention after publicly available court information was cited as showing a case involving a person named Iweh Odinaka at Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 21.

One report said the listing concerned a bail application and was subject to reporting restrictions, although the publicly available record did not disclose the alleged offence.

Separately, The Guardian reported on August 19 that rapper Ms Jorji had made an allegation against Poco Lee concerning an alleged attempted sexual assault involving her girlfriend. The allegation has not been established in court.

Against that backdrop, filmmaker TG Omori has publicly defended his longtime friend, describing Poco Lee as “the purest soul” he had met.

“It breaks my heart to hear Poco Lee in this sort of mess. That’s the purest soul I have ever met. The devil really works overtime,” Omori wrote on X.

Omori later clarified that his expression of support should not be interpreted as opposition to justice or as a defence of sexual offences.

“What part of my tweet is defending sex crimes,” he wrote, explaining that his comments reflected his longstanding relationship with Poco Lee rather than a dismissal of the allegations.

Socialite Rahman Jago also appealed for restraint, saying it was painful to see someone he regarded as a brother facing such a serious situation.

“Seeing my brother go through such a serious and painful situation is heartbreaking,” Jago wrote, adding that he believed “there is more to this situation than what people may have heard.”

Jago urged members of the public not to exploit the controversy for attention, saying Poco Lee was known among his friends as a “joy giver”.

Instagram influencer Sulaaaaaaa similarly cautioned against spreading claims that had not been established, describing Poco Lee as “a man with a good heart”.

The public support comes as uncertainty remains over several details of the UK proceedings.

Reports citing The court had been contacted for confirmation, but no response had been received at the time of publication.

Other reports have likewise noted that UK police and prosecuting authorities had not publicly released details establishing the circumstances of the alleged offence.

The September hearing is therefore expected to provide greater clarity about the allegations and the legal process facing the entertainer.

A plea hearing ordinarily allows an accused person to indicate whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty. The outcome of that process will determine the next stage of the proceedings.

Poco Lee, who has built a significant profile through dance performances, entertainment appearances and social media, has not been reported as having publicly commented on the allegations.

For his supporters, however, the immediate message has been one of patience rather than a demand for judgment outside the courtroom.

Kuti’s intervention has similarly stressed the importance of due process, while the entertainer’s friends have maintained that personal knowledge of his character should not be confused with the legal determination of the allegation.

Until a court determines otherwise, the allegations against Poco Lee remain unproven. The September 15 proceedings are expected to be an important step towards establishing the formal position of the case.
