The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 27-year-old Precious Yohana over the alleged killing of her newborn baby in the Federal Capital Territory, as police operations across Nigeria on Monday, October 5, 2026, also led to several murder arrests, the rescue of kidnapped victims and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed the developments in a statement published on the Nigeria Police Force’s social media platforms, detailing what the force described as the major outcomes of operations conducted across the country in the preceding 24 hours.

In the FCT, police surveillance personnel responded to a distress call concerning an abandoned baby in a bush and discovered the body of a newborn boy with severe cut injuries to the neck and abdomen.
According to Iniedu, preliminary investigations led detectives to Yohana, who allegedly confessed that she delivered the baby without assistance before using a razor blade to inflict the fatal injuries.
The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja for further investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing, including the events leading to the baby’s death, remain subject to investigation.
Elsewhere, police reported another disturbing murder case in Kogi State, where detectives arrested two women, Olorunada Suzan and Sixirat Moses, over the alleged killing of 90-year-old Juliana Joel, also known as Oyohu.
Police said Joel was found dead beneath her bed with her throat slit.
Her remains have been deposited at a morgue while detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lokoja continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
In Kano State, police arrested 20-year-old Halifa Miko over the alleged killing of his 30-year-old stepmother, identified as Hajara.
According to the police, Miko allegedly stabbed Hajara seven times in the stomach with a long pointed iron.
Hajara was taken to Dawakin Tofa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said the suspected weapon was recovered and the case is being investigated by the SCID in Bompai.
The police also announced a significant breakthrough in Rivers State, where three suspected members of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Chinemerem Uchiewo, Michael Ishaka and Gideon Okah.
Iniedu said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in several robbery and kidnapping incidents, including the robbery and killing of Joseph Onyeka in Rumuji community on July 23, 2026.
Police said the suspects allegedly confessed to multiple robbery and kidnapping operations.
Six firearms were reportedly recovered from the suspects, including two AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, a double-barrel gun and a locally made revolver.
The police also recovered 58 rounds of ammunition.
One of the recovered AK-47 rifles was allegedly among weapons previously snatched from an injured police inspector, according to the force.
The arrests form part of a wider series of operations reported by the police across several states.
In Kano, officers rescued two farm labourers who had allegedly been abducted by kidnappers.
A separate operation in the FCT also resulted in the rescue of a five-year-old girl who police said had been taken by an alleged abductor.
In Anambra State, police arrested four suspected armed robbers as part of operations against criminal networks in the state.
Police also reported the recovery of firearms and other exhibits during operations in Bayelsa, Ekiti, Osun and Anambra states.
The force said the operations were part of continuing efforts to disrupt criminal networks, recover illegal weapons and secure the release of victims of violent crimes.
While announcing the arrests and recoveries, Iniedu stressed that investigations into the various cases were still ongoing.
The cases are being handled by the relevant State Criminal Investigation Departments and the FCT CID, with detectives expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.
The police did not provide further details on possible charges or court proceedings against the suspects.
The reported operations come amid continuing concerns over violent crime, kidnapping and the proliferation of illegal firearms across several parts of Nigeria.
The police have repeatedly urged members of the public to provide credible information that can assist investigators in identifying suspects, locating victims and preventing further attacks.
