The Anambra State Police Command has rescued 16-year-old Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha after a hot chase by security operatives.

The teenager was rescued on Sunday evening during a joint security operation at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha, where operatives intercepted him moments after unidentified suspects reportedly pushed him out of a black Toyota Highlander SUV close to the checkpoint.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the swift response of the joint patrol team prevented further harm to the victim as the suspected kidnappers fled the scene. He said the rescue followed intensified strategic security operations across the state aimed at disrupting criminal activities.

Ikenga disclosed that the command has launched intelligence-led surveillance and manhunt operations to identify, trace and arrest members of the suspected kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction.

The police also appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, to provide information that could assist in reuniting the rescued teenager with his family.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, praised the vigilance and professionalism of the joint security team and directed officers to sustain intelligence-driven patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated operations to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
