The chilling attack occurred at about 11:45 PM on Thursday, 15 May 2025, when a 26-year-old man was spotted trying to break into the home of Prophetess Abosede Ajibare at CCC Orisunmbare Parish 2 using a digging tool.
A neighbour who noticed the suspicious activity tried to intervene but was chased off by the attacker wielding the tool.
The neighbour alerted the police at a nearby checkpoint. Sadly, by the time law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had already carried out a brutal shovel attack on Prophetess Ajibare.
The police arrested the suspect after shooting him in the leg to subdue him. During questioning, the man confessed he had been sent to kill the Prophetess and her children but refused to name the person behind the plot.
He died in police custody on Friday, 17 May 2025, raising further questions about the motive and those who may have orchestrated the attack.
Prophetess Ajibare sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta on Friday, 16 May. She succumbed to her injuries two days later, on Sunday, 18 May 2025.
“This is a terrifying tragedy. We need to understand why this happened and ensure it never happens again,” said a local church member who witnessed the aftermath.
The police have launched a full investigation into the Prophetess Abosede Ajibare murder and are appealing to the public for any information that may help identify the people behind the attack.
