Queen Mercy Atang became one of the standout personalities at the award event after appearing on the AMVCA red carpet in a dramatic dress reportedly made from 500 loaves of bread.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, the reality television star said she initially had no plans to attend the event this year because she was focused on achieving specific business goals.
The Queen Mercy bread dress AMVCA moment, however, quickly became one of the most talked-about fashion statements on social media after images and videos of the unusual outfit circulated online.
According to her, the idea to attend the event came after encouragement from her stylist and designer, Tianah Empire.
“I wanted to go to the event physically even after the red carpet had closed. I did not want to post the picture online alone, so people would not say it was AI-generated,” she explained.
Queen Mercy Atang credited Tianah Empire for conceptualising and creating the bold design, describing the process as physically exhausting and emotionally intense.
She revealed that the outfit took several weeks to complete and required multiple fitting sessions to perfect adjustments before the event.
The reality star also disclosed that the heavy structure of the dress caused her physical pain while wearing it.
“The weight of the dress almost broke my waist,” she said, adding that she sustained injuries on her back because of the heaviness of the bread attached to the outfit.
Queen Mercy admitted she broke down in tears during the fitting process and initially removed the dress after struggling with the weight before later deciding to wear it again.
