Renewed Hope Agenda support as Obasa backs Tinubu’s reforms, urges APC unity, and reaffirms confidence in Nigeria’s democracy on June 12

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, on Thursday reaffirmed his strong confidence in Nigeria’s democratic trajectory and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while calling for calm and reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a Democracy Day statement issued through his Special Adviser on Research, Media and Documentation, Adeshina Oyetayo, Obasa described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s political history, symbolising the resilience of citizens and their commitment to popular sovereignty.

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa extended congratulations to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the day remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists.

“Every June 12 remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of our heroes past and the enduring resilience of Nigerians in the defence of freedom, justice, and democratic values,” he said.

He added that the country’s 27 years within the Fourth Republic demonstrate a continuing belief in democratic governance as the most viable pathway to national development and prosperity.

According to the Speaker, President Tinubu’s personal history and political sacrifices continue to shape his leadership style and inform ongoing economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Obasa said the administration’s policies were gradually steering the nation towards economic recovery, improved governance structures and strengthened national unity, despite global economic pressures and inherited domestic challenges.

“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, our nation continues to make steady strides towards economic renewal, improved governance, and national unity,” he stated.

He urged Nigerians to support the administration’s reform programme, stressing that collective backing was essential to building a more resilient economy where enterprise can flourish and democratic dividends reach all parts of the country.

Obasa also addressed tensions within the APC, particularly in Lagos State, following recent party primaries that triggered protests over alleged irregularities and candidate impositions.

Describing internal party contests as a normal feature of democracy, he called for restraint, dialogue and reconciliation among party members.

“Party primaries are contests, not wars,” he said, urging members to prioritise unity and strengthen party structures in the interest of good governance and political stability.

The Speaker further emphasised that a united APC would be better positioned to consolidate democratic gains and maintain its influence ahead of future elections, including the 2027 general polls.

“Our focus must remain on the bigger picture, which is consolidating power in 2027 to continue the transformative work President Tinubu has begun,” he added.
