Response to Seyi Bakare: The desperation of an outgoing governor and his ghost army

The primary was a sham, not a victory

The latest sponsored propaganda from one Seyi Bakare; a clear pseudonym hiding behind the curtains of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s media machine, represents yet another desperate attempt to launder the image of a governor who has ruled Ogun State with iron fists for eight years but now trembles at the prospect of facing the people in a fair contest.

This recycled drivel titled “Sponsored Attacks on Abiodun, Tinubu Expose OGD’s Desperation” is not journalism. It is a poorly scripted damage-control piece from a camp that specialises in lies, backdoor deals, and blackmail.

They peddle the same falsehoods repeatedly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to secure undeserved trophies, while recruiting an army of ghost writers and pseudonyms to sustain the deception.

The primary was a sham, not a victory

Let us address the elephant in the room with facts, not fiction.

On May 18, 2026, incumbent Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) was advised by his supporters to withdraw from the Ogun East APC senatorial primary after credible intelligence revealed plans for a “rain of terror” against anyone daring to vote for him.

The outcome? Governor Abiodun was declared winner with a bogus 75,550 votes against Daniel’s meagre 398. This was not democracy. It was a coronation enforced by state power and intimidation.

How does a sitting senator, widely loved for his accessibility, constituency projects, and developmental strides, get reduced to under 400 votes in his own zone? Only through weaponised state resources and suppression.

Ogun people are sophisticated, yes – sophisticated enough to see through this charade and the manufactured “unity” narrative.

Lies, blackmail, and the voodoo economy

Governor Abiodun cannot win any fair and transparent contest.

That is why his camp relies on lies, ghost writers, and relentless attacks even after the so-called “victory.”

They drag President Tinubu’s name into local bitterness not because OGD disrespects the president, but because they fear the president’s intelligence and sense of justice.

For once, Governor Abiodun should come clean:

– Publish the full details of Ogun State’s finances.
– Disclose the oath or agreements made to procure his ticket through backdoor arrangements and subtle blackmail.
– Explain the “voodoo economy” where huge federal allocations and rising IGR disappear into massive debt (now hovering near 500 billion naira) with little visible transformation in Ogun East to justify eight years of “iron hands” rule.

This is the same administration that lectures others on loyalty while its own political trajectory reeks of ambivalence.

The infamous “Eleyi” episode and other moments of wavering are on record. Yet they project their sins onto Otunba Daniel, a man President Tinubu himself has repeatedly described as a longtime ally and friend who stood with him in critical moments.

OGD’s consistent record vs. desperate deflection

Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s political history is one of resilience and service; PDP governor who delivered infrastructure, now a performing Senator in APC who continues to champion Ogun East.

His support for broader progressive causes, including alignments that ultimately strengthened the South-West bloc, stands in contrast to the current governor’s reliance on state machinery to crush competition.

The real desperation belongs to those afraid of shadows; afraid of Daniel’s grassroots goodwill, afraid of open primaries, and afraid that voters’ apathy from this imposition will hurt the APC and President Tinubu’s project in 2027.

Attacking the most loved former governor with sponsored articles in The Guardian and elsewhere will not erase the truth.

It only exposes how far a failing administration will go to cling to power.

Loyalty to President Tinubu is not proven by sycophantic articles and financial opacity; it is proven by transparent governance, internal democracy, and genuine respect for party members.

A direct call to President Tinubu and APC leaders

Mr. President, the leaders of our great party must step in.

Reign in Governor Abiodun and his foot soldiers before this needless disaffection causes widespread voter apathy. Do not allow the politics of lies, imposition, and financial non-disclosure to define the South-West APC.

Ogun East deserves better than a senator installed through fear and falsehoods. Otunba Gbenga Daniel remains the amiable, tested, and people-oriented choice. The truth cannot be buried under ghost-written propaganda.

The game of weaponising media and state resources is clear for all to see. Ogun people are watching. History will not be kind to those who reward impunity while punishing loyalty and competence.

The story continues, but the people’s will cannot be suppressed forever.
