Rivers police arrest kidnappers who lured a woman through a dating site, collected ₦200,000 ransom, and confessed to the crime after arrest

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the arrests on Wednesday in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, who said the suspects had lured their victim through a dating site before abducting her and collecting a ransom of ₦200,000 from her family.

According to Iringe-Koko, officers from the Command’s Special Operations and Intelligence Team acted on credible intelligence on September 22, 2025, and trailed the suspects to Egwi community in Etche, where they were apprehended around 10:00 p.m.

The suspects, identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu Alozie, 25, from Okomoko in Etche LGA, and Miracle Nwimene, 25, from Zakpo in Khana LGA, reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

They admitted to luring the woman through an online dating platform before kidnapping her in Igbo Etche on September 21.

“Despite the pressure from our relentless pursuit, the suspects managed to collect a ransom of ₦200,000 from her relatives before releasing the victim,” Iringe-Koko stated.

She confirmed that the victim has been debriefed and reunited with her family, while investigations continue to track down other accomplices still at large.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift response of the operatives, describing the arrests as evidence of the Command’s dedication to public safety.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution when engaging in online dating, warning of the growing risks associated with such platforms.

Adepoju reaffirmed that under his leadership, the Rivers State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to protect lives and property across the state.
