The veteran Polish striker made the announcement on Saturday through an emotional Instagram post, where he reflected on his achievements and experiences at the club.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” Lewandowski wrote.
“I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships.”
The Robert Lewandowski Barcelona exit marks the end of a successful era during which the forward scored 119 goals in 191 appearances across all competitions after joining the Catalan club from Bayern Munich in 2022.
During his time at Barcelona, Lewandowski helped the club secure three La Liga titles, including the current season’s championship, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2025.
The 37-year-old arrived at Barcelona during a turbulent financial period and played a crucial role in restoring the club’s competitiveness both domestically and in European competitions.
“Barca is back where it belongs,” Lewandowski added.
“I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.”
Lewandowski is expected to make his final appearance at Camp Nou on Sunday against Real Betis.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed that the striker would start the match and praised his professionalism and influence within the squad.
“He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona,” Flick said.
“I’ve worked with Robert now for years, and we won together nine trophies. For me it’s a privilege to work with him.”
Flick described Lewandowski as a “fantastic human” and a world-class professional who served as a powerful role model for younger players.
Barcelona also paid tribute to the striker on social media, thanking him for his goals, determination and memorable contributions to the club.
“He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend,” the club stated.
The Robert Lewandowski Barcelona exit has already sparked widespread reactions among football fans, many of whom consider him one of the greatest strikers of his generation.
Lewandowski finished as La Liga’s top scorer during his debut campaign under former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
This season, he shared attacking responsibilities with Spain international Ferran Torres and scored 18 goals in 44 appearances.
