Many Nigerians have come after the senator from Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, for being the only lawmaker from southern Nigerian against the newly elected senate president of the 10th national assembly, Godswill Akpabio.

Recall that the 10th assembly, inaugurated and constituted few days ago, is now being led by Akpabio after he defeated his closest rival, Senator Abdulazeez Yari from Zamfara state.

Some Nigerians have expressed shock at the voting pattern which allegedly pointed in the direction of self preservation and ethnicism  typical Nigerian politician.

Many wondered why the chairman of Energy Group and Araba of Osooroland could have been the only southerner that voted against the new senate president.

“Out of over 23 Yoruba speaking senators from Kwara, Kogi, Ondo to Lagos, only Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo state voted against Akpabio a fellow “Southerner”. But look at how the South South and South East senators voted for Akpabio. If the Yorùbás of Kwara and Kogi together with their kinsmen in the South West did not throw their weight behind Akpabio, he would have lost to Yari. Those that continue to call other people traitors and cowards in the South should come and explain to us why many of their senators threw Akpabio under the bus. If you also observed that Senators from Cross River and Akwa Ibom also delivered 100 percent for their son. If anybody is lying to you on Twitter space that you should not think about your people or region first when it comes to political decisions, they are only trying to destroy you. At least we all know that the Yorùbás are not the problem of anybody in the South,” Aare Kurunmi Kakanfo (@AKakanfo)

Oguntoye Opeyemi wrote: Jimoh Ibrahim, the Debtor of AMCON is the only one old out in Southwest. He voted and campaigned for Yari. Kind of surprised with Kebbi and Sokoto voting pattern though 😰

“I honestly do not know what Jimoh Ibrahim have on aketi that gave him that ticket,” Prince Adedoyin A. Alatishe threw in a conspiracy theory.
