Sexual Harassment Allegations, Senate President Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan insists on pursuing her sexual harassment suit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio in court, rejecting demands for retraction and external evidence

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]enator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has reaffirmed her commitment to pursuing her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio in court, dismissing demands for retraction and external evidence.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has responded to demands from Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s counsel, Olisa Agbakoba, stating she will not retract her sexual harassment allegations and will present her evidence in court.

In a letter dated April 30, 2024, Akpoti-Uduaghan refuted Agbakoba’s claims of inconsistencies and rejected his call for her to substantiate her allegations outside the ongoing court proceedings.

Agbakoba had previously raised concerns about “significant inconsistencies” in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations, demanding a retraction.

The assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone,” said Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, emphasizing her commitment to pursuing the case through legal channels.

However, Akpoti-Uduaghan insists her petition “represents the truth of the events complained about.”

She criticized Akpabio’s counsel for requesting evidence outside the court’s purview, particularly given that Akpabio’s spouse, Unoma, has also filed a suit (No. CV/816/25) regarding the same complaint.

The Senator emphasized that “the assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone,” and any attempt to circumvent the regulated court process “risks subverting the very rule-of-law values” championed by Agbakoba.

She also highlighted the “rule against parallel adjudication,” stating that a litigant cannot “approbate in the courts and reprobate in the press.”
