The former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, OGD, has mourned the passing of a former sole administrator of Ekiti State, Gen. Tunji Olurin (rtd), who died at the age of 76.

A family source confirmed the demise of the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a release signed and made available to Freelanews by OGD, the former governor expressed shock at the death of someone he praised as an eminent statesman.

“I received the news of the demise of General Adetunji Olurin (rtd) with shock.

“General Olurin was an eminent statesman and disciplined officer who served Nigeria and our dear Ogun State with grace and candour.

OGD praised the late politician for his support in his emergence as the governor of Ogun State in 2003.

“I recall his sound support towards our move to render our services to Ogun in 2003. Indeed, he was one of the earliest persons consulted and he gave his support.

“General Olurin faithfully served as the founding chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) during our administration.

“His passing has left a huge vacuum at a time when our nation needs more leaders of thought to help navigate the present challenges,” the sad former Ogun governor mourned.

Otunba Daniel, while praying for his family, however, took solace in the fact that the late general is taking a deserved rest.

“I am however comforted that the late General has gone to rest having played his part on this side. My prayers are with his family at this difficult time and may his soul rest in peace,” he concluded.

Olurin was appointed by the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, as the Sole Administrator of Ekiti, to replace former Governor Ayo Fayose, who was removed over alleged gross misconduct.

An indigene of Ilaro, Ogun State, he took a break from political activities until his death after losing the 2011 governorship election.
