Simi old tweet allegations spark debate as the singer denies wrongdoing and says her 2012 posts were harmless and taken out of context

Nigerian singer Simi has publicly addressed resurfaced social media posts from 2012, rejecting what she described as false narratives arising from Simi old tweet allegations and insisting that her comments were harmless and taken out of context.

Simi shared a detailed statement online in which she explained that the tweets were written 14 years ago when she was 23 and living with her mother while working to build her music career.

At the time, she said she frequently posted about everyday experiences, including moments at her mother’s daycare centre.

The singer stated that the posts referred to children’s playful and mischievous behaviour in a light-hearted manner and were never intended to convey inappropriate meaning.

Simi maintained that nothing she wrote stemmed from perversion and argued that the tone reflected the spontaneous culture of social media at the time.

Simi acknowledged that she was not widely known in 2012 and suggested that increased visibility in later years may have amplified scrutiny of her past words.

While noting that she has never claimed to be perfect, she said she would not allow her story to be twisted to fit damaging interpretations.

According to Simi, members of her team have begun deleting some of the resurfaced posts because of the emotional impact on her family.

She admitted she initially resisted removing the tweets but agreed due to the sensitivity of the situation.

The singer also reaffirmed her long-standing opposition to rape and sexual assault, stressing that her advocacy predates her fame. Simi said her stance is not a public relations posture but a deeply held conviction.

The Simi old tweet allegations have sparked debate across social media platforms, with supporters defending her explanation and critics continuing to question the content of the posts.
