Adewole Adebayo criticises Tinubu over Tinubu hardship crisis, blaming leadership failure for Nigeria’s worsening poverty and economic strain

The Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, speaking from Abuja on Tuesday, June 10, 2026, has sharply criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions, arguing that the country’s current challenges are the result of leadership failure rather than inevitability, in what he described as a deeply troubling Tinubu hardship crisis.

Adebayo made the remarks in a post on his verified X account, where he addressed rising public concern over inflation, declining purchasing power and persistent poverty across the country.

He insisted that poverty in Nigeria is not natural or unavoidable but a consequence of policy direction and governance choices.

The SDP candidate stated that with the right leadership framework, clear priorities and deliberate planning, Nigeria could reverse its economic difficulties.

He maintained that current reforms have not translated into meaningful relief for ordinary citizens, despite being in place for several years.

Adebayo further argued that millions of Nigerians continue to experience economic pressure, describing the situation as a failure of governance that demands urgent correction.

His comments added renewed political heat to ongoing debates around the Tinubu hardship crisis, which has become a recurring theme in public discourse.

He stressed that poverty could be defeated if leaders adopt focused and disciplined economic strategies.

According to him, Nigeria’s challenges are solvable, but only if government priorities are properly aligned with citizens’ needs.

The statement has drawn attention within political circles, where discussions around economic performance and reform outcomes continue to dominate national debate.

Adebayo’s remarks are likely to intensify scrutiny of government policy direction as economic concerns remain a central issue for many households.
