Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued seven people after a Katsina highway abduction, Lieutenant Colonel Olamiyi Osoba, Deputy Director of Information for Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, 8 Division, said in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, 21 September 2026.
The seven were six students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and a commercial driver.

They were seized after armed assailants attacked a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina along the Daye to Malumfashi road in Danmusa Local Government Area.
Lieutenant Colonel Olamiyi Osoba said the troops answered a distress call on the evening of 21 September.
The intervention, he said, forced the attackers to abandon the captives and leave the scene.
All seven were recovered unhurt. They were then given preliminary security checks and a medical review.
“Following the preliminary security profiling and necessary medical evaluations, the rescued individuals were safely handed over to designated officials to facilitate their safe reunion with their families and school authorities,” Lieutenant Colonel Olamiyi Osoba said.
The army presented the operation as part of a wider effort by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt kidnapping and other crimes in the North-West.
The statement did not name the students or the driver, and it did not say whether anyone had been arrested.

For the families and for the university in Dutsin-Ma, the immediate fact is simpler. Six students and the man driving them are accounted for, and the army says they are unhurt.
