Tafa Niger State Road Accident leaves 10 dead and 20 injured after FRSC confirms tanker crash along Tafa–Gujeni route

The deadly Tafa Niger State Road Accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. along the Tafa–Gujeni route at Malam Tanko, involving a DAF tanker with registration number FKY136XD, according to a statement issued in Abuja by Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Mrs Felicia Kalu.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, said the vehicle was carrying 33 male occupants at the time of the crash, which resulted in 10 fatalities, 20 injured passengers, and three others rescued without injuries.

Preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps indicated that excessive speed led to a loss of control, while authorities also raised concerns over illegal mixed loading, as the tanker was conveying both goods and passengers.

Emergency responders from the FRSC outpost in Tafa quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating victims and restoring traffic flow after clearing the obstruction on the busy route.

The injured victims were taken to Umar Musa General Hospital in Sabon Wuse, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary.

Malam Shehu Mohammed described the incident as avoidable, calling it a painful reminder of the consequences of traffic violations and reckless driving.
