SON Fraud Alert: The agency warns the public against fraudsters impersonating its Director General to solicit funds for fake contracts and auctions

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued an urgent warning to the public over the activities of fraudsters allegedly impersonating its Director General and Chief Executive, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, to solicit funds through fake auctions and contract offers.

In a public notice released on Friday, the agency said it had become aware of individuals using the identity of the SON chief executive to deceive unsuspecting members of the public into making financial payments.

SON stressed that Dr. Okeke does not request monetary transfers, award contracts, offer employment opportunities or conduct official business through social media platforms or any unofficial communication channels.

The agency urged members of the public to disregard any such requests and remain vigilant against fraudulent approaches made in the name of its leadership.

As part of the SON Fraud Alert, the organisation specifically warned the public not to engage with the phone number 07046427254, which it said is being used by suspected fraudsters.

The agency also advised individuals not to make payments into an Access Bank account bearing the name Musa Abubakar with account number 1955996824, alleging that the account is linked to the fraudulent scheme.

SON described the impersonation attempts as deceptive and dangerous, noting that they could cause financial losses to unsuspecting victims.

The organisation reiterated its commitment to protecting stakeholders and maintaining the integrity of its operations.

It further encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious communications, requests for money or alleged contract offers linked to the agency to appropriate security authorities and SON for investigation.

The SON Fraud Alert comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of impersonation scams targeting government institutions, public officials and private sector organisations across the country.
