P-Square rift: Soso offers Peter ₦500m to fight Paul

thenacre-campaign

Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon offered singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, ₦500 million to face his twin brother Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy, in a boxing match during a performance on Sunday, 9 August 2026, as the long-running P-Square dispute entered another unusual chapter.

The extraordinary proposal has added a dramatic twist to the renewed tensions between the Okoye brothers, whose once celebrated partnership has again become the subject of intense public attention.

Soberekon made the offer while Peter was on stage, writing the proposed amount and challenge on his phone before showing it to the singer.

“500 Million Naira to fight your twin in a boxing match,” Soberekon wrote on the phone.

The proposal quickly became a talking point because of the history between Peter and Paul, who performed together as P-Square for more than a decade and built one of Africa’s most successful musical partnerships.

The brothers first experienced a major public split in 2017, with disagreements surrounding their careers and the involvement of their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, contributing to the breakdown.

Peter and Paul eventually reconciled in 2021, giving fans hope that the family and musical partnership had been restored. The reunion, however, did not last.

By 2024, the twins had separated again, with Paul publicly confirming that P-Square had broken up for a second time.

The latest dispute has become particularly serious, extending beyond personal disagreements into allegations concerning finances, music royalties and business arrangements.

Peter has recently made allegations concerning the handling of P-Square’s music revenue and has raised questions about the role of Jude Okoye in the group’s financial affairs.

Jude has disputed allegations of wrongdoing, while Paul has also pushed back against aspects of Peter’s public claims.

The competing accounts remain part of an ongoing dispute rather than settled findings.

Recent coverage has shown how closely Nigerians continue to follow the brothers’ fallout, with fans openly taking sides and debating whether Paul should respond to Peter’s latest allegations.

The renewed controversy has also revived interest in P-Square’s music.

Reports indicate that the group’s catalogue has recently received increased attention on streaming platforms, an ironic reminder of the commercial success that Peter and Paul achieved together before their relationship deteriorated.

Soberekon’s intervention therefore arrives at a particularly sensitive moment.

Rather than offering mediation or another appeal for reconciliation, the music executive’s proposal turns the brothers’ public rivalry into a tongue-in-cheek sporting challenge.

There is no indication that Peter has accepted the ₦500 million proposal or that an actual boxing contest has been arranged.

The offer also appears to have been made in a public entertainment setting rather than as a formal sporting promotion, meaning the financial pledge should not be treated as a confirmed fight purse.

For a Nigerian audience that has watched the P-Square saga unfold across several years, the moment carries an unmistakably dramatic quality.

A disagreement that began within one of the country’s most successful musical families has now produced an extraordinary suggestion involving half a billion naira and a boxing ring.

Yet beneath the humour lies a more serious story about a family and musical partnership that has struggled to remain intact despite its enormous success.

Peter and Paul became household names through hits that helped define Nigerian pop music in the 2000s and 2010s.

Their catalogue includes albums such as Get Squared, Game Over, Danger and The Invasion, cementing their place in the history of contemporary African music.

Their story has consequently become bigger than another celebrity disagreement. It has become a striking example of how family, friendship, business and creative partnerships can become deeply intertwined.

For now, the ₦500 million challenge remains just that, a provocative offer from Soberekon rather than a confirmed bout.

Whether Peter responds to the proposal, however, is likely to attract further attention as the latest chapter of the P-Square saga continues to unfold.
