The singer revealed the decision during an interview with NigerianTribuneTV’s Celebrity Chit-Chat.
Spyro said the idea for a remix came from discussions with his team about expanding the reach of the already popular track.
“The original song was so big at the time, and then Tunde had just reached out to me… he said, ‘Oh, this song is big right now, we need to take it to the next level, what would you want to have on it?’” he recalled.
The singer explained that he was presented with a list of about five artistes to choose from, including top-tier Afrobeats stars like Olamide and Asake.
After considering the options, Spyro opted for Tiwa Savage.
“So I just told him to give me a bit of time to pre-run it and come back to him… and I came back to him… I told him I wanted Tiwa Savage,” Spyro said.
He praised Tiwa Savage for her professionalism and supportive nature during the recording process.
“She heard the song, she loved it, and she didn’t even stress us at all. Very fantastic personality, very sweet,” he said.
The recording was completed smoothly, followed by a scheduled video shoot, Spyro added.
The remix, released in March 2023, became one of the most successful versions of the track, helping Who Is Your Guy reach wider audiences across Nigeria and internationally.
The collaboration also won Best Collaboration at the 2023 Headies Awards, cementing its impact on the music industry.
