Sunday Oliseh commends Mikel Arteta, saying the Arsenal manager combines Guardiola’s intelligence with a strong fighting mentality

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has delivered a glowing assessment of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta following the club’s Premier League triumph, describing the Spaniard as a tactician who blends “Pep Guardiola’s intellect” with a fierce fighting mentality.

Sunday Oliseh lauds Mikel Arteta remarks were made during an appearance on Global Football Insights With Oliseh, where the former Nigeria international analysed Arsenal’s transformation under the Spanish coach.

Oliseh said Arteta has evolved into a defining figure of a new managerial era, crediting him with reshaping Arsenal’s identity through discipline, tactical structure and strong leadership principles.

The former midfielder noted that Arteta’s evolution reflects influences from Pep Guardiola, under whom he previously worked, while also highlighting his own aggressive and competitive edge as a manager.

He pointed to key decisions, including squad restructuring and the prioritisation of versatile players, as central to Arsenal’s resurgence into consistent title challengers.

Sunday Oliseh hails Mikel Arteta analysis further highlighted Arsenal’s emphasis on collective pressing, positional flexibility and set-piece innovation, which Oliseh described as a modern, data-driven approach to football strategy.

Oliseh also referenced Arteta’s tactical adjustments during previous campaigns, suggesting that early intensity issues were refined over time into a more balanced and effective system capable of competing at the highest level.

Arsenal secured the Premier League title following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday, marking the club’s first league triumph in over two decades and Arteta’s first major domestic title in five years.
