Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, a former lawmaker representing Lagos West constituency of Lagos State, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi will be among the second set of 2021 law graduates to be called to the Nigerian Bar.

Afikuyomi, who will be 60 in December, has finally realised his dream to be among Nigeria’s learned men at a ceremony that will hold at Eagle Square in Abuja.

And by this feat, he has joined the league of few Nigerians to have featured in the three arms of government in the country’s political space.

Recall that his wife, Modupe, nee Ajibola, is also a lawyer as well as his brother-in-law, Segun Ajibola, a SAN.

The former lawmaker, graduate of Sociology from the prestigious University of Lagos, was exiled during the Abacha years, in the aftermath of the June 12 election annulment but later returned to represent Lagos twice in the Senate.

After an unsuccessful bid to become the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2007 election, Afikuyomi became the commissioner for Tourism in Lagos.

He had since devoted his energy to private business and party assignments.

An elated Afikuyomi is planning a small reception at 5pm after the Eagle Square induction into the Bar.

The Call to Bar Reception will take place at Charterhouse, 33, Lake Chad Crescent, off Ibrahim Babangida Boulevard, Maitama, Abuja.

Attendance is strictly by invitation.
