President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled an investment package worth more than $7 billion for the Ogun Blue Marine Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the Gateway Deep Seaport, describing the projects as strategic investments in Nigeria’s industrial and maritime future.
The President performed the groundbreaking ceremony in Ogun State alongside Governor Dapo Abiodun, federal officials, investors and industry stakeholders, marking the formal commencement of two of the state’s largest infrastructure projects.
Tinubu said the combined projects would strengthen Nigeria’s position as a regional manufacturing, logistics and export hub by attracting local and foreign investment, creating jobs and expanding non-oil revenue.
According to the President, the Gateway Deep Seaport will complement existing ports by increasing cargo handling capacity and improving the efficiency of maritime trade, while the Blue Marine SEZ will provide an industrial ecosystem for manufacturing, petrochemicals, logistics and value-added exports.
Governor Abiodun said the projects represent a major milestone in Ogun’s economic development strategy, noting that the state’s proximity to Lagos and its extensive industrial base make it an ideal location for large-scale investment.
He explained that the special economic zone is expected to attract global manufacturers through modern infrastructure, favourable business policies and integrated transport links connecting the seaport, road and rail networks.
The over $7 billion investment package includes the development of port infrastructure, industrial facilities, logistics parks and supporting utilities designed to serve both domestic industries and international trade.
Tinubu said the Federal Government would continue supporting public-private partnerships capable of unlocking economic growth, enhancing competitiveness and positioning Nigeria as a preferred investment destination in Africa.
The projects are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation, while boosting export capacity and accelerating industrialisation in Ogun State and the wider South-West region.
