President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud celebration, urging the faithful to reflect on the life of Prophet Muhammad and apply his teachings of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, President Tinubu said the commemoration of the Prophet’s birth should go beyond celebration and provide an opportunity for introspection, prayer and renewed commitment to values that can strengthen society.

“The Muslim faithful should make deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad,” President Tinubu said. “There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet.”

The President’s Eid-el-Maulud message comes as Muslim communities across Nigeria mark the occasion with prayers, religious gatherings and reflections on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

President Tinubu urged Islamic scholars and other religious leaders to use the period to pray for Nigeria and encourage their followers to translate the Prophet’s teachings into practical commitment to the country.

He also called on Muslims celebrating the occasion to remember people facing hardship, particularly vulnerable and disadvantaged Nigerians.

President Tinubu encouraged the faithful to extend a hand of fellowship to people in need, stressing the importance of compassion and solidarity during the religious observance.

The President further appealed for prayers against insecurity and other challenges affecting parts of Nigeria.

The appeal comes amid continuing efforts by the Federal Government and security agencies to address threats to lives and property in affected communities.

Eid-el-Maulud, also known as Mawlid, commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is observed by Muslims in many parts of the world.

In Nigeria, the occasion traditionally provides an opportunity for religious reflection, communal prayers and charitable activities.

President Tinubu’s message places particular emphasis on turning religious teachings into conduct, encouraging Muslims to demonstrate the virtues associated with the Prophet in their relationships with fellow citizens and in their contribution to national development.

The call for compassion also gives the celebration a strong humanitarian dimension, particularly at a time when many Nigerian households continue to contend with economic pressures and insecurity.

By urging religious leaders and worshippers to combine prayer with practical responsibility, the President presented Eid-el-Maulud as an opportunity for renewed faith, peaceful coexistence and a more compassionate society.
