The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level summit, which brings together African leaders, policymakers and private sector stakeholders to discuss development and economic cooperation across the continent.

Both leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration between African governments, the football ecosystem and private sector actors, with a focus on driving sustainable development initiatives in Nigeria and beyond.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the engagement in a post on its official X account, noting that the discussions centred on cooperation between football institutions, governments and business interests across Africa.

CAF stated that the meeting formed part of broader conversations at the summit aimed at linking sport with economic growth and innovation across the continent.

The Africa Forward Summit, hosted in Nairobi, is also part of preparations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

President Tinubu arrived in Kenya on Monday as part of a broader diplomatic tour that also included engagements in France, where he met global investors and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to economic reform and fiscal discipline.
