Tinubu returns to Abuja after political consultations, Eid celebrations, naval events and diplomatic meetings in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday returned to Abuja after an extended stay in Lagos, where the Nigerian leader participated in the All Progressives Congress nationwide primaries, observed Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and held a series of political, diplomatic and official engagements.

The Airbus A330 conveying President Tinubu landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 5:17 p.m., according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

On arrival, President Tinubu was received by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu and other senior government officials.

The President’s visit to Lagos was marked by a packed schedule that combined political consultations, national ceremonies and diplomatic meetings.

During the Eid-el-Kabir period, President Tinubu hosted several high-profile delegations, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The President also received APC stakeholders from Oyo State, led by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, as well as APC candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly from Lagos State.

A major highlight of the visit came on Monday when President Tinubu served as reviewing officer at the 2026 International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic City Waterfront as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.

During the event, the President commissioned three naval vessels, NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime security capabilities.

The same day, President Tinubu held a bilateral meeting with the newly inaugurated President of Benin Republic, Romuald Wadagni.

The meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation, economic partnerships and the longstanding relationship between both countries.

Before the Eid celebrations, President Tinubu participated in the APC nationwide direct primaries on May 23, casting his vote at his Ward L2 polling unit in Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos.

The President later emerged as the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election after securing 10,999,162 votes, defeating Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes.

The return to Abuja concludes a significant period of political and official activities for the President as preparations continue for upcoming national programmes and party engagements.
