Seyed Abbas Araghchi conveyed the message in a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and members of the Security Council.
According to Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency, the letter followed coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Tehran and other Iranian cities, which reportedly killed the country’s top leader.
In the correspondence, Seyed Abbas Araghchi described the attacks as “aggressive, unprovoked and unjustified,” accusing both countries of deliberately targeting the highest-ranking official of an independent UN member state.
The Iran Foreign Minister warning stated that responsibility for the consequences “lies solely with the perpetrators.”
Seyed Abbas Araghchi characterised the strike as a “cowardly terrorist action” and a direct violation of fundamental principles of international law, including the prohibition of the use of force, the sovereign equality of states, and the immunity traditionally accorded to heads of state.
He argued that such actions create a precarious and unprecedented precedent that undermines state sovereignty and civilised conduct among nations.
He further warned that the development could trigger dangerous and unforeseen global repercussions.
The letter also reaffirmed what Seyed Abbas Araghchi described as Iran’s inherent and inalienable right to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and citizens under the United Nations Charter.
