As the Custom Controller of Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, Nigeria, Frank Onyeka stood tall, his visionary leadership transforming the bustling hub into a beacon of efficiency and innovation.

With a keen eye for detail and a passion for excellence, he orchestrated a revolution that would change the face of the port forever.

Under Onyeka’s stewardship, the port underwent a metamorphosis. He streamlined processes, leveraging technology to simplify customs clearance and reduce dwell times. The once-congested terminals now pulsed with a newfound rhythm, as cargo moved swiftly and seamlessly through the gates.

Trade flourished, and the port’s reputation soared. Shipping lines and cargo owners alike sang Onyeka’s praises, extolling his commitment to transparency, accountability, and customer satisfaction. The Custom Controller’s door was always open, his ear attuned to the needs of stakeholders.

As the port’s performance metrics improved, so did its infrastructure. Onyeka oversaw strategic investments in equipment and facilities, ensuring the port remained competitive and adaptable to evolving trade demands. The results were staggering: increased revenue, enhanced productivity, and a surge in economic activity.

Beyond the numbers, Onyeka’s leadership style inspired a sense of pride and ownership among port personnel. He fostered a culture of collaboration, encouraging innovation and teamwork. The Custom Controller’s mantra – “Excellence is our standard” – resonated throughout the port, motivating staff to strive for greatness.

As news of the port’s transformation spread, investors and businesses took notice. Tin Can Island Port emerged as a hub of choice, attracting new entrants and stimulating economic growth in the region. Onyeka’s vision had not only revitalized the port but also contributed to Nigeria’s broader economic development.

The Custom Controller’s legacy continued to unfold, a testament to the power of visionary leadership and strategic innovation. Frank Onyeka’s impact on Tin Can Island Port would be felt for generations to come, a shining example of what could be achieved when passion, expertise, and determination converged.

Since Comptroller Frank Onyeka’s appointment as the Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port in December 2024, the command has generated significant revenue.

Revenue generated in the first quarter of 2025 amount to ₦347.9 billion, representing a 12.6% increase from the corresponding period in 2024. While in January 2025 ₦116.4 billion, exceeding the target by 24.06%.
Also in February 2025 ₦103.2 billion was generated, a 2.90% increase from the same period in 2024.

In March 2025 Tin Can Port rakes in ₦128.2 billion, a 10.3% increase from the same period in 2024.

The Revenue generated in 2024 was  ₦1,226,777,245,874.97, which represent about 86.8% of the federal government’s revenue target.

It’s worth noting that Comptroller Onyeka’s leadership style, which emphasizes trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling activities, has contributed to the command’s success.

His commitment to collaboration and innovation has also strengthened relationships with stakeholders, including security agencies and freight forwarders.
