Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, calling it a “disgrace” in a recent Fox interview.
The ceremony, which featured drag queens, a transgender model, and a singer dressed as the Greek god of wine, was seen by some as a controversial reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper.’
The performance, which depicted the biblical scene where Jesus Christ foretells his betrayal, has been condemned by Trump and others for its perceived religious insensitivity.
Paris 2024 organizer Anne Descamps has since apologized to Catholics and other Christian groups who found the depiction offensive.
Trump stated, “I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace. I thought it was a disgrace.” He further commented on the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, suggesting that similar depictions would not be acceptable. “We won’t be having a Last Supper as portrayed the way they portrayed it the other night,” he said.
Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in, criticizing the director’s choices as “satanic.” He shared his disappointment with X, recalling his excitement for the Olympics as a child and lamenting the current state of the ceremonies.
“Now with the ever predictable (& seemingly satanic to me) drag queen opening ceremonies and never-ending BS, no one I know even thinks about it beyond maybe watching some highlights,” Trump Jr. wrote.
