Two female students from Al-Qalam University, Katsina State, identified as Habiba Ango Shantali and Maryam Abubakar Musa, have been kidnapped by gunmen believed to be bandits. The abduction occurred on Monday, January 15, 2024, as the students were on their way back to the university.

The President of the National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), Comrade Gambo Idris Shehu, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement released by the Secretary-General, Comr. Mohammed Ibrahim.
“The National Executives Council just received the sad news that two of our students from Niger State who are studying at Al-Qalam University Katsina have been kidnapped on their way back to school,” the statement read.
The abducted students, both hailing from Borgu Local Government, are identified as Habiba Ango Shantali, a 200-level student in the Political Science department, and Maryam Abubakar Musa, a 400-level student in the Microbiology department.
The statement concluded with a plea for divine intervention: “May Allah rescue them from the hands of those notorious people.”
This distressing incident adds to the growing concerns about the security situation in various parts of the country. The entire academic community and concerned citizens are awaiting updates on the situation, hoping for the swift and safe rescue of the abducted students.
