UBA court case sees ruling delay as Justice Akintola extends injunction on Osun LG funds till Tuesday amid jurisdiction and adjournment disputes
The UBA court case involving the United Bank for Africa Plc and the Osun State Government has taken a new turn as the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan on Friday extended its ruling on several pending applications till Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Justice Ladiran Akintola, presiding over Court 5, said the extension was necessary to allow adequate time for a fair and well-considered ruling.
He also renewed the interim injunction previously placed on UBA, maintaining a no-debit restriction on 30 bank accounts holding Osun State Local Government allocations.
During Friday’s proceedings, UBA’s counsel, Mutalib Ojo (SAN), urged the court to adjourn the UBA court case indefinitely, arguing that the Supreme Court had already heard a related matter and reserved judgment.
He warned that any ruling by the lower court could conflict with the eventual decision of the apex court.
According to Ojo, “If this High Court proceeds to hear the suit, there is a 50-50 chance that its decision may clash with the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Proceeding further could waste judicial time since the higher court’s ruling will ultimately prevail.”
However, counsel to the sacked APC local government chairmen, Kazeem Gbadamosi (SAN), opposed the application, calling it “an anomaly” that should not be entertained until the issue of jurisdiction was resolved.
He described the move as a possible abuse of court process.
Representing the Osun State Attorney General, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN) countered, explaining that his clients approached the High Court only after learning that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant General of the Federation had transferred the contested funds to UBA despite the ongoing Supreme Court case.
Justice Akintola, after hearing extensive arguments from all parties, adjourned the UBA court case for ruling until next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court, on October 7, had reserved judgment in a related suit filed by the Osun State Government against the Attorney General of the Federation concerning the release of the withheld local government funds.
