US-Nigeria partnership reinforced at UNGA as Landau and Tuggar meet in New York to discuss security, migration, and religious freedom

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, underscored Washington’s commitment to maintaining what officials described as a “strong and enduring” relationship with Africa’s most populous nation.

According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, Landau and Tuggar explored a range of pressing issues, including curbing illegal immigration, strengthening security cooperation, and promoting religious freedom.

“The meeting highlighted the United States’ commitment to a strong and enduring partnership with Nigeria,” Pigott noted in a statement, adding that discussions would feed into broader diplomatic efforts between both countries.

The engagement comes as both governments seek to deepen collaboration on regional stability, counter-terrorism, and economic development, with analysts noting that Nigeria remains a key US ally in West Africa.

By engaging on the margins of the UN General Assembly, the two nations signalled their intention to align on global challenges while reinforcing bilateral ties.
