Victor Attah International Airport night operations restored after overhaul. Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno commends Nigerian Airspace Management Agency

Victor Attah International Airport night operations have been fully restored following a successful overhaul of the airfield lighting system, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced.

Governor Eno had earlier set a strict deadline of September 30, 2025, for the restoration of night flight capabilities at the airport.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, the governor congratulated Mr Uwem Ekanem, the MD/CEO of Ibom Airport Development Company, and the Board for meeting the target within the stipulated time.

The statement confirmed that the navigational aids had been recalibrated and the lighting systems fully overhauled, lifting the previous sunrise-to-sunset restrictions and enabling immediate resumption of night flight operations.

Governor Eno also expressed deep appreciation to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency for their instrumental role in the successful completion of the project.

The government remains committed to continuous investment in the airport’s maintenance, the international terminal, and other ongoing aviation projects ahead of the Yuletide season.

This development is part of the broader ARISE agenda focusing on tourism growth. The resumption of night flights is expected to facilitate seamless operations for Ibom Air, encouraging more tourists and visitors to the state.

“Akwa Ibom is being primed as the tourism haven of our nation and a future with or without oil,” the statement added.

On July 12, 2025, Governor Eno approved the release of N1.194 billion for the airport’s facility overhaul, reinforcing his determination to meet an eight-week deadline for full night flight operations. He also warned of sanctions for any delays in meeting this target.
