An unidentified man was reportedly shot by a gunman outside the main gate of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, in an incident that sent panic through the busy area.
The shooting occurred in broad daylight at one of the busiest locations on Lagos Mainland, where students, staff, traders and commuters gather daily.

The shooting has heightened concerns about security around the institution.
Although the college is one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, areas surrounding the campus have occasionally experienced criminal incidents, including suspected cult-related violence.
As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident. No arrests have been announced, and the motive for the attack remains unknown.
The management of Yaba College of Technology had also not commented publicly. In previous security incidents around the campus, the institution has worked with law enforcement agencies to strengthen safety measures.

Residents and members of the academic community have called for increased security patrols around the college and other busy public areas, expressing concern over the safety of students, workers and visitors.
