Yinka Alaseyori faces backlash after defending President Tinubu and linking insecurity concerns to spiritual factors during Oyo abduction debate

Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has come under heavy criticism after defending President Bola Tinubu and the country’s security agencies in remarks linked to the ongoing public outrage over insecurity and the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State.

The singer made the comments during a recent Instagram Live session, where she addressed growing concerns over the kidnapping of pupils and teachers, an incident that has continued to generate widespread anger across the country.

Her defence of government efforts, alongside suggestions that spiritual factors may be affecting security operations, quickly triggered backlash online, with many Nigerians accusing her of downplaying the urgency of the situation.

Alaseyori insisted that security operatives are actively working to rescue victims and should not be accused of inaction.

She argued that unseen forces could sometimes hinder successful operations, calling for increased prayer alongside national efforts.

According to her, “We need to pray. You can’t say the President and our armed forces are not working, they’re working,” she said during the live broadcast.

She further suggested that security agents may struggle to locate criminal hideouts despite ongoing efforts, stressing that spiritual intervention remains important in addressing national challenges.

The remarks were made against the backdrop of public outrage following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, an incident that has intensified calls for stronger security measures and accountability from authorities.

However, her comments quickly divided opinion on social media. While some users supported her call for faith and prayer, others criticised the singer for appearing to shift focus away from operational and governance issues.

Critics argued that families affected by the abduction are seeking urgent and practical solutions rather than spiritual explanations, describing her comments as insensitive to the gravity of the situation.

The controversy continues to fuel wider debate on the role of public figures in national conversations, especially as insecurity remains a pressing concern across several parts of the country.
