Vice Chancellor Professor Olusola Kehinde urged government and philanthropists on Wednesday to expand learning programmes inside Nigerian correctional centres.

He spoke through Dr Fafiolu Olusesan during the ceremony for thirty eight inmates at Ibara Correctional Centre. He then called classrooms behind bars engines of reform.

The students, funded by the West African College for Christian Missions, earned Theology and Missions degrees. They left the stage to warm applause.

Kehinde reminded the audience that nobody is born a criminal; cruel conditions often push people into crime.
He added that a cell can restrain a body but study frees the mind.

Controller General Sylvester Nwakuche called education a bridge for reintegration and a spark of hope for a fruitful future.

He asked stakeholders to support the service so former inmates return to society as productive citizens.

Provost Professor Ohiku urged the graduates to shine their new light and spread change beyond the prison walls.
