The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Agege branch B, has appealed to Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to steer clear of its affairs.

The Union alleged that Obasa is trying to impose some of his boys on the Agege branch B of the union.

The Chairman, Pero/Otubu unit of NURTW, Alhaji Kamorudeen Balogun, appealed to Obasa to let the union elect its leaders.

“I am appealing to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to stop imposition of Union leaders, especially in Agege.

“For over 40 years, we have enjoyed relative peace within Agege union members and we would not want this peace to be disrupted by the activities of the speaker.

“We enjoin Obasa to focus on his role as the speaker and let the union also focus of its task. Agege union of the NURTW is not the right place for him to play his politics,” he said.

Balogun called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to intervene in the matter.

Another member of the Union, Lateef Ajani, said that imposition of people on union leaders has never ended well and Agege will be no exception.

“Since the days of UPN, we have always followed directives from the top regarding NURTW and that is why Agege branch has enjoyed relative peace.

“We are begging Obasa to leave union matters for union members the way we have left the House of Assembly affairs to him. He should rememeber that we are all stakeholdersnin the affairs of Agege and we all voted for him during the last election. The person he is trying to impose on us cannot deliver 1,000 votes to him alone,” he said.

The Chairman, Portugal Unit and Branch Auditor, Comrade Ogunsaya Odunayo said that the Union is not fighting amongst itself as the current State Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), has done a fantsatic job in ensuring a peaceful NURTW.

He, however, said that it would not be a good thing for the speaker to be the one to disrupt the peace in Agege.

He said, “We are appealing to Obasa to please let the union decide its chairman.”

The organising Secretary, Sunmonu Unit of NURTW, Boluwatife Dosumu, said that overlooking the right person for the job will amount to nothing but injustice.

“We have been doing the union job for over twenty years and anywhere there is imposition, there is never peace. It would be the height of injustice to overlook the rightful person for the job,” he said.
