Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the recent general election, expressed profound concern over the devaluation of life in Nigeria amidst a deepening hunger crisis, emphasizing the tragic consequences of food scarcity on the populace.

Obi lamented the prevailing situation where life has become increasingly dispensable, particularly evident in the frequent occurrences of stampedes and struggles for food across the country. He highlighted recent incidents, including the stampede at Nasarawa State University, where two students lost their lives while vying for government-provided food, and another stampede during an almsgiving zakat exercise in Bauchi State that claimed four lives.

In a statement shared on his social media handle, Obi underscored the dire implications of rising food prices and pervasive unproductivity, which have left many Nigerians uncertain about their next meal. He emphasized the desperation among the populace, driven by the harsh realities of food insecurity and economic hardship.

“It is saddening how cheap life has become in this country today. It is now a daily occurrence to read reports of our fellow Nigerians who lose their lives while struggling for basic food to eat,” Obi remarked.
