The trial date for a lawsuit filed by MARKETING EDGE Publications Limited against the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has been set for May 27th by Justice Taiwo Olatokun of an Ikeja High Court.

This legal action follows alleged threats and harassment stemming from one of NIMN’s publications.

Felix Akinsola, representing the company as the lawyer for the 2nd defendant in suit number ID/10977GCMN/2024, identified as Idorenyen Enang, the President of NIMN.

MARKETING EDGE Publications Limited is seeking a perpetual injunction restraining NIMN and its associates from further threats or harassment, including through law enforcement agencies. Additionally, they are requesting an injunction to prevent NIMN from continuing to publish defamatory material.

The claimant also demands damages amounting to N20 million for reputational harm, defamation, and a reduction in esteem among the public. Moreover, they seek a retraction of a specific publication made by NIMN in the Punch Newspaper of November 24th, 2023.

In a detailed 36-point statement of claim, MARKETING EDGE alleges a deliberate effort by NIMN to undermine its reputation and business through toxic publications. They argue that unless restrained by the court, NIMN will continue to spread libelous statements, causing severe financial and reputational harm.

Furthermore, MARKETING EDGE asserts that NIMN’s actions have unjustly discredited its merit-based awards and tarnished its standing in the marketing community. They accuse NIMN of orchestrating falsehoods with malicious intent to damage their business.

The claimant emphasizes that NIMN’s publication implies deceitfulness and disrespect for the law, which has led to financial and reputational damage. They argue that NIMN’s actions have undermined their years of hard work and exposed them to ridicule and contempt.

As the trial date approaches, MARKETING EDGE remains steadfast in seeking justice and redress for the alleged harm inflicted by NIMN’s publications.
