Former governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday, emphasized the need for religious leaders to address the collapsed value system in the country.

Daniel also urged Nigerians to use their God-given strengths and talents to make a positive impact on society.

He stated that Nigeria can only succeed in building a strong nation when every citizen contributes to its development and prosperity. He made this call during the third annual Asiwaju of Remo Christians Choir Festival, which he sponsors, held at Abraham’s Tabernacle, GRA, Sagamu.

Six invited choir groups from Ogun, Lagos, Osun, and Ondo States competed for the N3 million prize.

Daniel explained that he initiated the choir competition 16 years ago as part of his annual thanksgiving, aiming to improve the art of singing in the church. He believes that good and well-arranged songs can attract young people to church services and expose them to life-transforming messages.

Daniel said, “We feel that part of our responsibility to society is to help address the collapsed value system. I believe that the Christian church and the Islamic world have significant roles to play in moral suasion and sound preaching.

“From my perspective as a Christian, I have decided to encourage church attendance through the development of our singing art with annual choir competitions like this.

“By organizing such events, young people who may find sermons boring can be encouraged to come to church to listen to good music with impactful messages.

“Many successful individuals in the music and entertainment industries started in the church, where they developed their talents and skills. Given the economic potential of our country, the music and entertainment industry can make substantial contributions.

“This annual choir festival is an investment in identifying, grooming, and empowering young men and women to unleash their potential. Everyone should use their God-given strengths to add value to society.

“Aliko Dangote’s strength is industry, and he uses it to add value. Pastor Adeboye’s strength is the gospel, and he uses it well. Your strength may be music, sports, or another area; use it to make a positive difference in society. This is the spirit behind our efforts.

“The Choir festival will soon become a tourist attraction. It is improving every year, and the next edition will be international. Soon, it will be a week-long event, a major tourism hub,” the former governor added.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and Co-founder of EKO Hospital, Dr. Sonny Kuku, praised the annual festival for its significant impact in fostering healthy competition and striving for excellence.

At the end of the five-hour singing competition, the panel of judges announced De Emmeralds Choir from Akure, Ondo State, which came last in the previous edition, as the winner of the N3 million prize for first place.
