Kano government clarifies controversial wheelbarrow empowerment video

The Kano State Government has addressed the controversy surrounding a recent video that allegedly depicted wheelbarrows being distributed as empowerment materials.

Contrary to the claims made in the video, the wheelbarrows were tools distributed to community development associations for the 2024 Kano Drainage Clearance Exercise.

The government emphasized its commitment to youth empowerment through modern technical skills training and education. “We currently have numerous young people enrolled in the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Institute, where they are learning modern technical skills,” the statement read.

The administration has also reopened 26 tertiary and entrepreneurial institutions that were closed for eight years. These institutions are being remodeled and renovated to provide opportunities for thousands of youths interested in agriculture, IT, education, security, sports, and other sectors.

Additionally, the government highlighted its sponsorship of over 1000 first-class graduates pursuing master’s degrees in India and Uganda. “We have consistently paid tuition fees for Kano State undergraduate students in various universities across the country, and this is not a loan; it’s free of charge.”

The government called for constructive feedback and urged the public to share only verifiable information. “We appreciate constructive feedback. But please, stick to sharing only verifiable information that is devoid of any mischief and fabrication,” the statement concluded.
