Nigeria’s Falconets lost 1-3 to Germany in their second Group D match at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World

 

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igeria’s U20 women’s football team, the Falconets, suffered a 1-3 defeat to Germany in their second Group D match at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The match, held at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia, saw Germany take the lead early in the 17th minute with a goal from Sehitler Alara, capitalising on a defensive error by Nigeria.

Despite struggling in the first half, the Falconets came back stronger after the break, with Chiamaka Okwuchukwu equalising in the 50th minute.

However, Germany responded quickly, regaining their lead with Sofie Zdebel’s 61st-minute goal. Nigeria pushed for an equaliser but had a goal disallowed by VAR.

Germany sealed their win with Sarah Ernst’s goal, leaving the Falconets with three points from two games and Germany leading the group with six points.

The Falconets now face a crucial final group match against Venezuela, needing a strong performance to secure a place in the round of 16.
