PMAN leadership crisis

PMAN’s leadership crisis deepens as National Treasurer Baba Ojonugwa disassociates from ex-NWC members, citing misuse of his signature.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) is facing an escalating leadership crisis following a significant development involving its National Treasurer, Mr. Baba Ojonugwa (J.F.O).

In a formal letter dated 6th September 2024, Ojonugwa disassociated himself from the actions of the former National Working Committee (NWC) members, accusing them of using his signature without consent.

Ojonugwa revealed that his signature had been fraudulently used by ex-NWC members, including prominent figures like Mr. Sunny Neji, Mr. Zaaki Azzay, Mr. Stephen Michael (Ruggedman), Mr. Boniface Itodo, and Mr. Faga Bem Paul, in various correspondences and press releases. Despite issuing warnings, the ex-NWC continued these unauthorised actions, further deepening the crisis.

His disassociation has significant legal implications for the ex-NWC, as their inability to form a quorum, as required by PMAN’s Constitution, renders them unable to hold official meetings or make decisions on behalf of the association. This development could severely weaken their legal challenge against the current leadership.

Ojonugwa stressed that he had never authorised the use of his digital signature and expressed concern over the confusion caused by the ex-NWC. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the PMAN Constitution and acting in the best interest of its members.

With Ojonugwa’s move, PMAN’s National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to respond swiftly, potentially seeking legal remedies to remove the association’s name from the ex-NWC’s suit. This leadership struggle continues to threaten PMAN’s stability, but the tide may be turning in favour of the current leadership.
