British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, has wrapped up his four-day visit to Lagos and Ogun States, underscoring the UK’s commitment to strengthening ties and promoting investment. The visit included the announcement of a $5m battery recycling facility in Ogun by UK-based Hinckley Recycling.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, has completed a successful four-day visit to Lagos and Ogun States, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and supporting key development initiatives in Nigeria.

During his visit, Dr. Montgomery met with Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Oluof Lagos State, holding discussions on enhancing economic ties, driving investments, and identifying future priorities that could boost prosperity for both states and the UK.

A significant highlight of the visit to Ogun State was the announcement by Hinckley Recycling, a UK-based company, of their $5 million investment to establish Africa’s first lithium-ion and lead-acid battery recycling plant in Ogun State.

This state-of-the-art facility will utilize UK-patented technology, making it a landmark project that creates a new high-value export industry and over 100 direct jobs.

Dr. Montgomery praised the collaborative efforts of OgunInvest and other state officials, noting the UK’s full support for Governor Abiodun’s mission to bring investment and job opportunities to Ogun.

He further referenced the $15 million investment by British International Investment into Valency International in Ogun last year, with four other companies currently benefiting from the UK’s Manufacturing Africa programme.

In Lagos, Dr. Montgomery met with prominent business leaders, including CEOs of Airtel Nigeria, Standard Chartered Nigeria, Helios Investment Partners, Afrinvest, and KPMG West Africa, and held discussions with Chief Emeka Anyaoku. These meetings further strengthened the business and trade relationships between the UK and Lagos, a key commercial hub.

At the conclusion of his visit, Dr. Montgomery remarked,
“My visit to Lagos and Ogun States has reinforced the strong ties between our two great countries. Both states are key to boosting Nigeria’s economic prosperity, and the UK is committed to driving that growth, promoting trade, and supporting their developments.”

The partnership between Nigeria and the UK continues to grow, with investments like the Hinckley project in Ogun State symbolizing the strong collaboration in creating sustainable industries and fostering economic growth in Nigeria.
