The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms across the nation from Monday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

According to the outlook released in Abuja, morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states on Monday.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms will likely spread to Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.

The Federal Capital Territory, along with Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, will also experience thunderstorms in the morning hours.

In the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states.

The southwest inland, particularly Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, will see rains extending to coastal areas such as Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states.

NiMet urges residents to stay cautious and avoid flood-prone areas due to a high likelihood of urban flooding. Strong winds may accompany the storms, prompting the agency to advise the public to adhere to safety advisories.

Public and airline operators are encouraged to consult NiMet for updated weather reports to aid in their planning.
