OGD announces Federal Government approval for Ogun Waterside Naval Base, set to boost security and local economy in Ogun State

In a letter to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Senator representing Ogun East at the National Assembly, has announced the Federal Government’s approval to commence construction of a Naval Base in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

The project, located in Abigi-Makun-Omi, aims to enhance regional security and bolster economic growth in Ogun State.

He highlighted the dedication and efforts that led to this project approval under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Positioned as a statutory constituency project within the Federal Government’s appropriation, the Ogun Waterside Naval Base project is part of a broader initiative to advance development across the Ogun East Senatorial District.

The senator expressed confidence in the project’s potential to benefit the immediate communities and the state as a whole.

The initial phase of construction will focus on securing the site with perimeter fencing, building an administrative block, and providing residential facilities for junior naval officers and ratings.

According to the schematic layout of the Naval base as shown below, which is to be developed in phases, include a naval school, naval hospital, church, mosque, playing field, accommodation for naval officers and ratings amongst others.

In the statement, the former governor shared the aspiration that subsequent project phases will include a Naval Primary and Secondary School, a Naval Hospital, and other essential infrastructure, further expanding the facility’s impact.
