Lagos chemical explosion

A chemical explosion in Lagos caused first-degree burns to a woman. Authorities cite heat radiation as the cause and launch an investigation.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] woman sustained first-degree burns after a chemical explosion erupted in Lagos, reportedly triggered by prolonged exposure to heat radiation.

The incident, which occurred at 7 pm on Friday along the Old Abeokuta Motor Road, was confirmed by Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services.

The chemical, stored in various kegs of different sizes, had been left exposed in an open area, leading to the explosion.

Responding swiftly, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service deployed its Agege Fire crew, who successfully extinguished the fire and contained the situation.

Margaret Adeseye elaborated, stating, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued a female adult from a chemical-induced fire at 291, Old Abeokuta Motor Road, opposite Vetland Secondary School, Agege, Lagos. The fire was caused by the explosion of kegs containing an unknown chemical stored in an open, fenced space.”

The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently receiving medical treatment for her injuries and is reportedly responding well.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the type of chemical involved and identify its owner. Initial findings suggest that exposure to intense heat radiation caused the chemical to explode.

This incident highlights the dangers of improperly stored chemicals, especially in urban areas like Lagos. Residents and businesses are urged to adhere to proper safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences.
