Dear Kaffi returns to Terra Kulture this yuletide, blending love, societal critique, and vibrant storytelling to captivate Lagos audiences
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s the festive season unfolds, Terra Kulture Arena welcomes back Dear Kaffi, a spellbinding theatrical production that promises to captivate audiences.

Directed by the celebrated Bolanle Austen-Peters, the play returned to the stage on Thursday, 26 December, and will run daily until Sunday, 5 January 2025, adding a dynamic flair to Lagos’s holiday entertainment.
Following its acclaimed debut during the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF) last month, Dear Kaffi – Kike’s Story has emerged as the flagship production for Terra Kulture and BAP Productions this season.
Co-produced by Austen-Peters and Joseph Umoibom, the play offers a compelling exploration of love, identity, and societal pressures through the life of Kikelomo Olota, a 35-year-old single woman navigating the complexities of Lagos society.
Kike’s journey begins with her teenage brilliance in academics, earning admiration but isolating her socially. Seeking acceptance, she trades her intelligence for popularity, leading to a series of tumultuous relationships.
From Femi, a charming but deceitful partner, to Emeka, whose perfect façade conceals his marital status, Kike’s experiences shape her evolving perspective on love and self-worth.
As familial pressure mounts, Kike meets Debo, a suitor with potential, only to face challenges from her past, including the return of Tamuno, an ex-boyfriend who threatens her new relationship.
With wit, humour, and poignant critiques of cultural norms, Dear Kaffi – Kike’s Story delves into the themes of self-discovery and resilience in a society rife with expectations.
The production features a stellar cast, including Bimbo Manuel, Uzo Osimkpa, and Yewande Osamein, alongside industry veterans like Ralph Okoro and Nonzo Bassey. Behind the scenes, Stage Manager Ikenna Jude Okpala and music directors Kehinde Oretimehin and Deji Aremu ensure a seamless and vibrant presentation.
Co-producer Joseph Umoibom expressed excitement about the play’s return, noting its success at LITF and its perfect alignment with the season’s celebrations.
“Dear Kaffi connected deeply with audiences, and the feedback has been fantastic. It’s the ideal play to close the year and usher in a promising new one,” he remarked.
Austen-Peters echoed this sentiment, highlighting the bustling creative scene in Lagos during the holidays.
“Lagos is alive this season, and we’re thrilled that Dear Kaffi is a part of the joy. We’re fully sold out, and it’s heartwarming to see the play contribute to the entertainment and creative landscape as we step into the new year,” she said.
