Tokunbo Wahab orders removal of illegal shanties under Cele-Itire bridge to improve drainage and sustainability

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has directed the immediate removal of illegal shanties and markets under the Cele-Itire bridge.

This directive was issued during his inspection of System 6 (Odo Asimawu) and System 6c (Cele-Ijesha), key infrastructure designed to improve drainage and environmental management in Lagos.

During the visit, Wahab emphasised the detrimental effects of illegal structures on the state’s drainage systems and overall environmental health.

The shanties and unauthorised markets have contributed to waste accumulation, blocked drainage systems, and disrupted the flow of traffic in the area.

The commissioner’s intervention aligns with the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable environment.

He reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal structures and called on residents to cooperate with the government to preserve public infrastructure.

This decisive action is expected to restore the area’s functionality, reduce flooding risks, and promote environmental sustainability.
