Lagos State’s Drainage Enforcement team begins removing illegal structures along the Olowu community drain in Ibeju Lekki to ensure compliance

The operation, which began recently, aims to restore the flow of water and prevent flooding in the area.

The move follows increasing concerns over encroachments on the state’s drainage systems, which have caused blockages and hindered the effectiveness of water management infrastructure.

The Olowu community drain, which has been encumbered by unlawful structures, has been a particular focus of the enforcement team.

The removal of these structures is expected to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall.

The operation is part of Lagos State’s broader efforts to ensure environmental compliance and maintain proper drainage systems across the state.

It also forms part of the ongoing efforts to tackle the challenges posed by urbanisation and rapid development, which often lead to the illegal construction of buildings along waterways and drains.

The Drainage Enforcement team has assured that the exercise will continue to focus on areas where encroachments have compromised the effectiveness of drainage systems.

The ministry has also urged residents to respect zoning laws and construction regulations, as this will contribute to better flood management and environmental sustainability in the state.
