Paul Parker warns Manchester United against re-signing Paul Pogba, calling it a regressive move as the midfielder returns from a doping ban

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ormer Manchester United defender Paul Parker has advised his old club against the idea of re-signing Paul Pogba, arguing that it would be a step backwards for the Premier League side.

Pogba, who has had two previous spells at Old Trafford, is set to return to football in March after his initial four-year doping ban was reduced to 18 months.

The 31-year-old midfielder is now a free agent following the termination of his contract with Juventus.

Speaking to GOAL, Parker urged Manchester United to focus on recruiting players with the right mentality rather than revisiting past signings.

“You have got to look at how long he has been out. You have got to look at what he is already doing publicity-wise and putting himself out there,” Parker said.

“It’s going backwards again. They went backwards getting him before. There was a reason why Sir Alex let him go. They respected that there was something that wasn’t right.

“They tried it again, and it didn’t work. To go back now, for me, it wouldn’t be the manager’s decision. That would be undermining the manager. It’s not a step forward.”

Parker’s comments reflect growing concerns over whether Pogba, despite his undeniable talent, would be a good fit for United’s future plans.
